Consonants — Letters That Make Words

Memory Verse "For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding." — Proverbs 2:6 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn common consonant sounds and how they pair with vowels.

Lesson Content

All the letters that are not vowels are called consonants! Letters like B, C, D, F, G, and more are consonants.

B says 'buh' like in Bible and boy. C says 'kuh' like in cat and cross. D says 'duh' like in dog and David. G says 'guh' like in God and garden.

When we put consonants and vowels together, we can make words! B and A make 'ba.' C and A and T make 'cat.' G and O and D make 'God!'

God wants us to learn our letters so we can read the Bible! Every letter He helps us learn brings us closer to reading His Word.

Hands-On Activity

Practice writing these consonants: B, C, D, G, M, S, T. Say the sound each one makes. Then try to pair each consonant with the vowel A to make a sound: ba, ca, da, ga, ma, sa, ta.
