Vowels — The Special Letters

Memory Verse "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." — Psalm 119:105 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn the five vowel sounds: A, E, I, O, U.

Lesson Content

Today we are learning about five very special letters called vowels! They are A, E, I, O, and U. Every word needs at least one vowel!

A says 'aaa' like in apple and angel. E says 'eee' like in egg and elephant. I says 'ih' like in igloo and insect.

O says 'ah' like in octopus and olive. U says 'uh' like in umbrella and up. Can you say each sound?

God gave us letters so we can read His Word, the Bible! Vowels are in every word you will ever read. Let's practice them!

Hands-On Activity

Write each vowel on a card: A, E, I, O, U. Say the sound each vowel makes. Then find objects in the room that start with each vowel sound. Draw a picture for each vowel.
