Thanksgiving — The Pilgrims Thank God

Memory Verse "Give thanks in all circumstances." — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn the story of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving.

Lesson Content

A long time ago, people called Pilgrims sailed on a ship called the Mayflower to America. They wanted to be free to worship God!

The first winter was very hard. The Pilgrims were cold and hungry. But God helped them! Native Americans showed them how to plant corn and catch fish.

When the harvest came, the Pilgrims had plenty of food! They were so thankful to God that they had a big feast — the first Thanksgiving!

Every November, we celebrate Thanksgiving. We eat turkey and give thanks to God for all His blessings — just like the Pilgrims did!

Hands-On Activity

Make a Thanksgiving turkey by tracing your hand! Each finger is a feather. On each feather, write or draw one thing you are thankful to God for.
