Weather — God Controls the Sky

Memory Verse "He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous." — Matthew 5:45 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn about different types of weather and how God controls them all.

Lesson Content

God is in charge of all the weather! He sends sunshine, rain, wind, and clouds.

Sunshine makes us warm and helps plants grow. Rain gives water to the flowers, trees, and animals. God sends both because we need both!

Wind is air that moves. Sometimes it is a gentle breeze, and sometimes it blows hard. God told the wind and waves to be still, and they obeyed Him!

Clouds are made of tiny water drops way up in the sky. White fluffy clouds are beautiful, and dark clouds bring rain. After rain, God sometimes puts a rainbow in the sky — His promise to us!

Hands-On Activity

Make a weather chart! Draw four boxes. In each box, draw a different kind of weather: sunny, rainy, cloudy, and windy. Each day this week, point to the box that matches the weather outside.

Discussion Questions

  • Who controls the weather?
  • Why do we need both sunshine and rain?
  • What did God put in the sky after it rains?
