Our Flag — The Stars and Stripes

Memory Verse "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD." — Psalm 33:12 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn about the American flag and what its colors and symbols mean.

Lesson Content

America has a beautiful flag! It has red and white stripes and white stars on a blue background. We call it the Stars and Stripes!

The flag has 50 stars — one star for each state in our country. The 13 stripes are for the first 13 states that started our nation.

The colors mean something special too! Red is for bravery, white is for goodness, and blue is for justice. Our country was built on these good things.

We put our hand over our heart when we see the flag to show we love our country. God has blessed America!

Hands-On Activity

Color a picture of the American flag. Count the stripes — there should be 13! Use red, white, and blue crayons. Then practice putting your hand over your heart.
