Reptiles — Scaly Creations

Memory Verse "How many are your works, LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures." — Psalm 104:24 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn about reptiles and how their unique features demonstrate God's creative wisdom.

Lesson Content

God created reptiles on Day 6 along with the other land animals. Reptiles are cold-blooded animals with dry, scaly skin. This group includes turtles, lizards, snakes, and crocodiles. God gave each reptile kind exactly what it needs to survive.

Reptiles have amazing features that show God's intelligent design. Chameleons can change color to match their surroundings. Geckos have tiny hairs on their feet that let them walk on walls and even ceilings! Turtles carry a hard shell on their back that protects them like a shield. These are not accidents — they are the work of a wise Creator.

Some people wonder about dinosaurs. The Bible tells us that God created all land animals on Day 6 — and that includes dinosaurs! Dinosaurs were one of the reptile kinds that God created. They lived at the same time as people, and some may have even been described in the Bible, like the 'behemoth' in Job 40.

Hands-On Activity

Choose a reptile and draw it with its special features labeled (scales, shell, claws, etc.). Write two sentences explaining how God designed that reptile to survive.
