The Pilgrims — Coming to America for God

Memory Verse "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." — Psalm 107:1 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn about the Pilgrims who came to America so they could worship God freely.

Lesson Content

A long time ago, a group of people called the Pilgrims lived in England. They wanted to worship God in their own way, but they were not allowed to.

The Pilgrims were very brave. They sailed across the ocean on a ship called the Mayflower. The trip was long and hard, but they trusted God.

When the Pilgrims arrived in America, they thanked God for keeping them safe. Native Americans helped them learn to grow food in the new land.

The Pilgrims had a big feast to thank God for His blessings. We remember this as Thanksgiving! They show us the importance of thanking God for everything.

Hands-On Activity

Make a simple Mayflower ship out of a walnut shell, clay, and a paper sail. Act out the Pilgrims' journey.
