Lesson Content

Betsy Ross was a seamstress who lived in Philadelphia. A seamstress is someone who sews clothes and other things with a needle and thread.

The story tells us that George Washington asked Betsy Ross to sew the very first American flag. She worked hard and made a beautiful flag with red and white stripes and white stars on a blue background.

Betsy Ross used the talents God gave her to help her country. She showed us that everyone can serve, no matter what job they have.

The American flag reminds us of our freedom and our nation. Every time we see the flag, we can thank God for America.

Color or paint an American flag. Count the stripes and talk about what the stars and stripes mean.
