The Birth of Jesus — God's Greatest Gift

Memory Verse "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." — Luke 2:11 (ESV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn about the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem and understand why His coming was the greatest gift to the world.

Lesson Content

God promised to send a Savior to the world, and He kept that promise! An angel named Gabriel visited a young woman named Mary and told her she would have a very special baby — God's own Son.

Mary and Joseph traveled to the town of Bethlehem. There was no room for them at the inn, so baby Jesus was born in a stable and laid in a manger — a feeding box for animals.

Angels appeared to shepherds in the fields and told them the good news: the Savior had been born! The shepherds hurried to see baby Jesus and praised God for His wonderful gift.

Hands-On Activity

Draw a picture of the nativity scene with Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus in the manger, and the shepherds. Write the memory verse below your picture.
