Why We Have Rules — God's Gift of Order

Memory Verse "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord." — Colossians 3:20 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will understand why rules are important and how God gave us rules to keep us safe.

Lesson Content

Rules are important! Rules help keep us safe and help us get along with each other. God loves rules because He is a God of order!

God gave us the very first rules in the Bible — the Ten Commandments! These rules teach us to love God and love other people.

At home, we have rules like 'Be kind to your brother or sister' and 'Clean up your toys.' These rules help our family be happy!

At school, we have rules like 'Raise your hand' and 'Take turns.' Following rules shows that we love God and care about other people!

Hands-On Activity

Draw a picture of yourself following a rule — maybe sharing a toy, raising your hand, or cleaning up. Write or tell your teacher what rule you are following in the picture.
