3rd Grade Bible & Scripture — Kings and Prophets — God's Faithful Servants
Students will learn how young King Josiah rediscovered God's Word and led the nation back to God.
Josiah became king of Judah when he was only eight years old! His grandfather Manasseh and his father Amon had been wicked kings who worshiped idols and forgot about God. But Josiah chose to be different.
Even as a young boy, Josiah sought the God of his ancestor David. When he was sixteen, he began to clean up the land by removing idols and false altars. He wanted Judah to worship the one true God again.
When Josiah was twenty-six, he ordered repairs to the temple in Jerusalem. During the repairs, the high priest Hilkiah found the Book of the Law — the Scriptures that had been lost and forgotten for many years!
When Josiah heard the words of the Book of the Law read aloud, he tore his robes in grief. He realized how far the people had turned from God's commands. He gathered all the people and read the Book to them.
Josiah led a great revival. He renewed the covenant with God, destroyed all the idols in the land, and celebrated the greatest Passover feast since the days of the judges. Josiah showed that one person who loves God's Word can change an entire nation.
Create a scroll to look like the Book of the Law. Write your favorite Bible verse on it, roll it up, and tie it with string. Share why this verse is important to you.
