Abraham — The Father of Faith

Memory Verse "I will bless you... and you will be a blessing." — Genesis 12:2 (NIV)

Learning Objective

Students will learn about Abraham's faith journey and how God made a covenant promise to bless all nations through him.

Lesson Content

Abraham (first called Abram) lived in a city called Ur. One day, God told him to leave his home and go to a new land that God would show him. Abraham trusted God and obeyed, even though he didn't know where he was going!

God made a special promise, called a covenant, to Abraham. God said He would give Abraham a great nation, bless him, and through his family, bless the whole world.

Abraham and his wife Sarah waited a very long time for a child. They were very old when God finally gave them a son named Isaac. Abraham was 100 years old! God showed that nothing is impossible for Him.

Abraham is called the father of faith because he trusted God even when things seemed impossible. His faith teaches us that we can always trust God's promises, even when we have to wait a long time.

Hands-On Activity

On a piece of paper, draw Abraham looking up at the night sky full of stars (Genesis 15:5). God told Abraham his family would be as many as the stars! Write the memory verse beside your picture.
